Gjirokastra

Gjirokastra open call (1).jpg

Landscape of stone houses in Gjirokastra. The view from above makes this painting look like a series of ground floor houses in Gjirokastra. This painting took me about 3-4 working hours and only a pencil and a paper were used. Characteristic in these houses is the way they are built, as they appear in the painting, almost all of them have a chimney, some small windows, a roof made of old tiles and stones and normally without forgetting the walls of the house built of stone as well . The first view from standing on a roof looks like the roofs are coming and thickening, making the roof look like a road on which you can walk and get lost in the beauty of Gjirokastra.

This drawing shows Berat, another city in Albania, known for its inspiring cultural environment. The city’s historic centre was listed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2008.

About the artist: Jurgen Dedja

My name is Jurgen Dedja and I am in the 11th grade at "Sami Frasheri" High School (German project). I am 17 years old and in my free time I sometimes draw but most of it I spend it playing basketball as I continue to be in a basketball team since 6th grade. Drawing hasn't been my favourite thing to do as I prefer doing athletics, but I have never left it behind as a opportunity to spend my time with.
